Introducing “The Floorboard,” a recycled T-type guitar from our Upscaler range.
This unique piece is part of a duo crafted from near-identical reclaimed Norwegian spruce bodies—one as a budget-friendly Upscaler and the other as a boutique build.
The goal of this project was to demonstrate that you can create an exceptional instrument without breaking the bank. In line with our Upscaler ethos, we prioritized recycled, reclaimed, and repurposed materials, allowing us to build a budget guitar that boasts a boutique feel while giving back to the environment.
The reclaimed Norwegian spruce body underwent the traditional Japanese shou-sugi-ban weathering technique, involving burning, brushing, and washing, before being finished in rich Tung oil.
The maple neck, sourced from a MIJ Stratocaster, has received a day’s worth of care, including a fret job, a refinished surface, and custom dot inlays. Lightly roasted with a blowtorch, it now beautifully complements the weathered spruce body.
The control plate and electronics have been repurposed from a Squier Telecaster, with the original Green Meanie capacitor replaced by a high-quality Sprague Orange Drop.
Finished with repurposed chrome hardware and a set of OEM fiber bobbin Alnico IV single coils, this guitar is not only visually striking but also delivers a beautiful playing experience. Don’t let its rustic appearance fool you; it’s a truly remarkable instrument to play.
